Congrats to the people making a difference

People are what make TCC great. Students eager to learn and build their resumes. Faculty prepared to share their expertise. Staff positioned to help students enroll, find their classes, apply for scholarships, etc. Again and again, when people talk about TCC, they talk about, well, the people.

Employees from every area of the College gathered yesterday on TCC's Southeast Campus to kick off the new academic year. At this event, several employees were selected as TCC Excellence award winners. These winners were nominated by their peers for the excellent work they do with and for students. Since many of you may know the winners, I'm thinking you might want to tell them "congrats," either by leaving a comment on this blog or telling them in person, so here are their names:

It's here! TCC Mobile 2.0

Want to look up the email address of your professor on your smart phone? Or find out where the Administration building is? Or access Blackboard? You can do all of these in the new, revised TCC Mobile 2.0 app that is available for download in the App Store and Google Play.

TCC reps are visiting all four campuses this week and next week to give students a one-on-one demo of the revised app. The women in this photo were on Metro Campus this morning downloading the app.

Catch the remaining demos on: June 5, Seminar Center lobby, Northeast Campus; June 10, The Hub, Southeast Campus; and June 12, Academic building, West Campus. All visits are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hi, everyone. I will be out on campuses taking photos in the next few days. If you see two men and a woman roaming on campus with a ginormous camera, that's us! Come say "hi" and we might just take your photo and put it on the TCC website. :)

MathPath returns! Refresh skills, save time & money

Has it been a while since you were in a math course? Do you need to refresh your skills this summer before the fall semester? For the second year, TCC is offering MathPath to boost your college math skills and help you score your best on the TCC math placement test. Scoring higher may allow you to skip TCC math review courses (developmental math courses with no college credits), and prepare for that first college level math class. Taking fewer or zero developmental math classes would save you time and money.

In MathPath, a continuing education class, instructors work one-on-one with students to address each student's need. 

Last year's MathPath students had this to say about the experience: 

1. Going at my own pace.

2. Telling me which problems i did wrong

3. It really helped to remember what I needed to, Iv been out of school for 2 years now and I had forgotten a lot and this math class really helped me

4. There was a math site available when you got home. So you could learn outside the course.

5. The study plan and being able to study from home as well

6. Once you took a test, it automatically knew what you needed to work on most to improve your score, and retake the test again. It also had an option where you could ask for help on any problem, and you could also ask your instructor. It has helped me understand the math that I didn't understand in high school!!

7. It took you step by step in each question if you needed it.

8. The tests told you what you needed to study

9.The instructor is really nice & helpful.

10.My situation was unique in that I have been out of the classroom for an extended period and needed a boost in my self confidence.

Get your grub on

So. You have 30 minutes before your next class, and you're starving. What's a poor college student to do? Raid the vending machine? Scrounge around in your pockets for leftover tater tots? I say, "No!"

TCC has some great places to grab a bite if you get the munchies between classes. At Metro Campus, Bill & Ruth's is the place to get an old-fashioned burger and fries or a fresh salad. At Northeast Campus, Subway has your sandwich of choice. At Southeast Campus, hang out at The Hub for some Bill & Ruth's grub. At West Campus, delight your taste buds at the Upper Crust.
